Learn the proper etiquettes and remarkable benefits of reciting the Quran in group sessions
Gathering together to recite and study the Quran brings immense spiritual rewards and blessings. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"No people gather together in one of the Houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelops them, angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him."
The best and most beneficial method is for one person to recite aloud while the rest listen attentively. This allows everyone to focus on understanding, reflecting on the meanings, and learning proper recitation. Listeners should follow along in their Mushaf (Quran) and contemplate the verses.
Another acceptable method is for participants to take turns. One person recites a portion (such as a page or Surah), then another continues while the rest listen. This approach allows everyone to practice recitation while maintaining the benefit of listening and learning from each other.
Reciting all at once in a loud, unified voice is generally considered disliked (makruh) by many scholars because:
The primary purpose of a group session should be to learn, understand, and reflect upon the Quran's meanings—not just to complete a recitation quickly. Consider incorporating brief tafsir (commentary) discussions to deepen comprehension and spiritual benefit.
Maintain proper adab (etiquette) during group sessions:
If individuals in a group are studying or revising simultaneously (such as in a study circle where each person is working on different sections), they should recite in a low voice to avoid disturbing others and to maintain focus.
